Using Winzip
Before you are able to decompress or unzip a file, you need to have a decompression or unzipping program. These programs are available on the Internet and might require you to pay a royalty to use it. The instructions below are for Winzip.
Download the zip file to your computer. Remember the location where you downloaded the file.
- Once the download is finished, double click on the zip file. This should start Winzip.
- Select Winzip Classic button from the bottom of the application.
- Select the files you want to extract by highlighting them and click on the extract button on the top.
- The Extract files dialog box appears. The Extract area in this dialog box indicates that you are extracting all of the files from the .ZIP file or just selected files. The Extract to area allows you to select a destination for the files being extracted.
- If the .ZIP file you are extracting from contains a password, you must enter that password before you can extract files. Type the password in the Password box. If the .ZIP file doesn't contain a password, leave the Password box blank.
- Select a destination for the files being extracted. You may either extract to your hard disk or floppy disk. If you extract to your hard disk, you may either type a location - such as a drive or directory path - or you can use the Browse button to access your hard drive for a location. Click the Create Directory button to create a destination directory.
- When you have finished selecting a destination, click on Extract to start extracting. As Winzip for Windows extracts the files, it displays the status of the extraction process in the Progress area of the dialog box. The name of the current file being extracted appears next to the word Filename. The percent completion changes as it extracts. As each file is extracted, an OK appears next to that file. At the bottom of the dialog box, Winzip for Windows displays the number of warnings.
- When the last file is extracted, Winzip for Windows displays a “Done” message. When you see this message, click on the Done button to exit.
